Southern Europe is an amazing place to spend your golden years.
Legions of English, German, and Scandinavian retirees flock to Spain, Portugal, France, Greece, etc. -- and with good reason. Each of these countries offer a rich history, vibrant culture, epic scenery, hospitable people and temperate climates.
And since all of these countries have been suffering economically over the past decade or so, the cost of living there is substantially lower than in the more successful European countries to the north.
Your retirement dollars, pounds, and euros can go much farther in Greece and Portugal than in the US, Canada, or the UK.
Fortunately for retirees, most southern European nations offer easy residencies aimed at attracting self-sufficient people, who do not need to work any more. (At least not in the traditional sense, by seeking local employment).
Pension and social security benefits you receive in your homeland can convince local authorities that you will not be “starving” while in the country.
Similarly, younger and still economically active folks can also take advantage of the same residency programs. If you can prove that you have sufficient savings or income to sustain yourself independently, you will be welcome too.
And while in most cases, you won't be allowed to seek local employment using the “retirement” residency, you can still work on your remote job or business.
And considering that the required income can be as small as a few hundred euros per month, and that a wide range of income sources are usually accepted, chances are you can qualify for one of these residencies as well.
Learn what European countries offer easy residencies for retirees and other self-sufficient people, and what their requirements are, in today's Monthly Letter.
